Located between Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe, the 28-hectare Château Puy Castera vineyard is owned by Alix Marès, a very dynamic young woman who is a fully qualified agronomic engineer. Alix follows the traditional Médoc methods of wine-making.
The winery was started in 1975 by Alix’s father, Henri Marès, who worked closely with oenologist Professor Emile Peynaud to build a special cellar which uses the gentle power of gravity throughout the wine-making process. This gravitational technology is in use from the moment the grapes reach the cellar until the wine is poured into barrels. This minimises grape damage and allows her fruit to shine.
Alix pays extreme attention to the soil by practicing the concept of ‘intelligent pest management’ in the vineyards. She is advised by one of the Médoc’s best oenologists, Jacques Boissenot who has worked with Chateaux Margaux, Mouton-Rothschild and Palmer amongst others!
"With a perfume of violets and the characteristic note of pencil shavings, this Bordeaux, from a family-owned estate in the Médoc is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, giving it flavours of blackcurrant leaf and black plum."
"Developed attractively leafy aromas and elegant light red fruits. Refined, mature Bordeaux."
"Classic Herb and spice nose. Inviting. Well judged palate, with a welcome depth of fresh fruit."
"Restrained and reserved classic Claret character. The firm tannins support black fruit flavours that linger long, lifted with subtle oaky spice. Grill a steak and serve with a cream and peppercorn sauce with a smidgen of Irish whiskey."
Chateau Puy Castera
Our vineyard of 28 hectares respects the traditional vineyard of Médoc with a majority of Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet-Franc, Malbec and Petit-Verdot.In 1973, when the Vignoble was created, Henri Marès and his children followed the advice of the famous oenologists MM. Peynaud-Boissenot. Today, the castle is managed by the descendants of Henri Marès.
