"Delicious full-bodied, fleshy plums and subtle peppery spice. Velvet smooth texture yielding to alcohol’s warming finish. Stir-fry beef strips and coloured peppers and and cumin."
"Lush, opulent mouthfeel leads into flavours of black plums, cassis and hints of fig and liquorice."
"Moreishly rich and satisfying, with a little savoury development to complement its dark, plummy fruit."
Château Calon is situated by the highest point of Saint-Émilion, and the vineyards spread over 38 Ha of clay and limestone, with a view over the whole of St. Émilion region. Although the exact origin of the name is unknown, Calon is the Greek word for beauty and there is evidence of ancient Greek settlements in the area. The Greeks also associated beauty with excellence, so it is fitting that the wines produced here reflect the beauty of the area. Many of the vines are over 60 years old. The harvest is done by hand, and the fermentation is temperature controlled, using only indigenous yeasts. In 1981, a new cave was excavated in the rock, seven metres deep. This allows the wine to be kept in ideal conditions until it is deemed ready for release.
