Prosecco is Italy’s sparkler of choice. Its bright and bubbly nature makes it the perfect wine to welcome guests or get a party started. Look out for delicious apple and pear flavours with a dry and refreshing finish. The top examples have a creamy texture with frothy bubbles.
Genuine Prosecco comes from the Veneto appellation of Prosecco di Conegliano Valdobbiadene in the hinterland north of Venice. It has two main styles with important differences
1) FRIZZANTE: Frizzante means semi-sparkling. They have a lighter, less consistent sparkle, are generally less expensive than full sparkling and don’t have a mushroom cork.
2) SPUMANTE: This is the full-on sparkling Prosecco. The bubbles provide a persistent mousse and all this pressure is kept under wraps by the classic mushroom (Champagne) cork.
