Cosimo Maria Masini 'ANNICK'
Sauvignon Blanc, Vermentino
Predominately Sauvignon but not as we know it. The natural fermentation leads to aromas of citrus fruit, with brilliant, bright freshness, and long length.
The winemaking philosophy that drives Cosimo Maria Masini is that daily work in the vineyard and humble interaction with nature will yield the best and most enjoyable wine. We can’t argue with that, particularly after tasting their super Tuscan “Sincero”.
Cosimo Maria Masini’s winery and vineyards lounge over the hills around San Minato, an ancient medieval village in the heart of Tuscany. The Masini family has owned the estate since 2000; their rolling hillsides include 40 Ha of vineyards, as well as olive groves, fields and woods.
The region in general and the Masini estate, in particular, has a rich winemaking pedigree. Winemaking in San Miniato stretches back 2000 years thanks to the regions vine-friendly soils. The region’s clay is rich in fossils of ancient sea life, and vines flourish in the local microclimate. The estate’s Villa la Selva was once owned by the Marquis Cosimo Ridolfi, an early agricultural innovator, who experimented with viticulture there.
Today, Cosimo Maria Masini grows traditional Tuscan grape varieties like Sangiovese, Trebbiano, and Malvasia Nera, as well as international grapes and a local variety, Sanforte, which they are recovering to preserve the genetic heritage. What’s more, Cosimo Maria Masini is completely Biodynamic!
