Jose Pariente Verdejo

This white wine is bold, fresh and aromatic with ripe citrus acidity and a lovely refreshing finish. Meticulous winemaking and viticulture make this one of Spain's top verdes wines. Decanter Magazine describes this wine as "Very pure, tense and penetrating; a wine of remarkable clarity softened by a round freshness of ripe green fruits. Very long, mineral finish. Drink now."

Intensity Light bodied Full bodied
Acidity Low High
Style Dry Sweet
Victoria Pariente

Victoria Pariente came from a wine family and grew up skipping through her father’s vineyards. She went on to get a degree in chemistry and oenology at the University of Madrid. In 1998, bored with an office-bound job with the Spanish Department of Agriculture, she joined forces with Victoria Benavides and made wine under the “Dos Victorias” label (Two Victorias).

Soon after this their Verdejo (named after Victoria Pariente’s father), won the prestigious Best White Wine in Spain award. It was the house wine in El Bulli, regarded as the best restaurant in the world before Ferran Adria, the chef/proprietor hung up his toque. The pair no longer make wine together and Victoria now works with her daughter Martina. Although joined in the winery by her daughter, and preceded by her father, José, Victoria is definitely the driving force behind this outstanding wine.

She is always trying out new ways to preserve the essential character of the grape with cooler fermentation and very gentle filtration. Her scientific and analytical background is evident in this constant quest for small changes which allow the wine to reach the customer in a way which reflects precisely the characteristics of her excellent Verdejo grapes..

Bodegas Jose Pariente

Our vineyard is in the Rueda appellation, between the towns of Rueda and La Seca, in the province of Valladolid. The setting is a sweeping plateau at an altitude of 750 metres, stern and luminous, with the extreme continental climate of the Castilian meseta. In order to take advantage of a wider variety of soils and give greater complexity to the wines, the José Pariente vines are spread over several estates in the appellation. The best estates are on land poor in organic matter, with a gravelly soil, a layer of pebbles — highly beneficial to the roots of the vines — and a clay and limestone subsoil.
