Wine Makers

Stefano Accordini Ripasso. by Tiziano & Daniele Accordini

When we first went in search of the Accordini family winery, we got totally lost. We eventually came across a big, factory like outfit and wandered in. We were a bit disappointed by the scale of the operation. The winery was so big that bicycles were provided to workers to get around the building. It didn’t take long to realise we were on the wrong side of the valley and we were eventually directed to Stefano’s hillside vineyard.

The Accordinis are very proud of their excellently situated property. The south-east exposure of the vineyards is very important and ensures grapes of perfect ripeness, essential for both the young fruity Valpollicella and the rich Ripasso and Amarone. The well-balanced composition of the soil produces grapes suited to the 'withering' necessary for the Amarone.

For such a small family winery in the hills near Lake Garda they have accrued an enviable number of accolades and awards from all around the world. If you get a chance to visit this part of the world, the Accordinis are also reknowned for their hospitality, and have a traditional 'tavernetta' wherein you can taste their excellent range of wines. Of course, you can also enjoy them just as much in your own kitchen!

"Relaxed, restrained and impressive. Traditional in it's make-up and as close to delicate as ripasso gets." Ernie Whalley, Sunday Times

"Dark chocolate, dark fruit, smoky oak and spice permeate this rich example. Perfect for venison." Caroline Byrne, Sunday Times

“This is ‘happy wine’. Something southern French about the nose. On the palate, red cherries and dark plums in harmony. Long Finish.” Ernie Whalley, The Sunday Times – 2013 Top 100 Wines

‘Intense, spicy, plummy with new oak. Bright and well focused. Tart and crisp with cherry flavours.’ * * * * * Best Valpolicella Ripasso, Decanter Magazine.
